Drink a little Drank

Rando pictures from Christmas and day after.

Charlie on my shoulder, Massive delicious boba drink, and dual peacock sighting (you'd already know if you're my fb friend)

Thank God for Miso Black Cod

Had lunch with a good ol friend today in LA at Katsuya. SO DELICIOUS. The spicy tuna with crispy rice and miso black cod definitely stood out as amazing flavor bombs in my mouth. It wasn't too expensive for lunch either and free valet! hurray! Afterwards we got some yogurt at some rando froyo store where I made beautiful-blue-doe-eyed-eye contact with ZOOEY DESCHANEL!!!!!!! It was epic. If it was Emily (aka Dr. Temperance Brennan), I would have flipped a shit and embarrassed my friend, but luckily I kept my composure and just died inside only.
Oh my friend took this picture of my on our way to the yogurt store by some cute little mailbox. I blocked out the address for privacy reasons. I haven't been wearing any heels at all lately because my left ankle has been KILLING me, no idea why. I'm hoping this pampering will give it enough time to heal so that I can wear some heels on NYE!

Tripod Time

Took these photos a couple days ago with my new mini tripod because nobody was home. Although I felt pretty silly taking pictures of myself (narcissistic too!), i did feel more comfortable because I was alone. Can you tell? Well at least I thought I was alone, some creepy neighbors could have been watching me like that creepy old lady a couple units down that watched me watching TV this one time from INSIDE MY PATIO. If you're reading this, which you aren't because you don't speak english and I didn't notice you as a new follower, GO AWAY!
Anyhow, wore one of my new items from my last Bloomies splurge. I'm also wearing my fav sweater trio! I love oversized sweaters, so why not wear three at the same time! Inside is a gap men's sweater, then a banana republic sweater, and on the outside is a f21 sweater. I'm pretty proud of that jumping shot.
I'm a much better blogger now that I have my new camera. I just spent over an hour catching up on all my blog subscriptions hence the flood of updates. Speaking of my camera, J got me the most awesome memory card for my awesome camera. It's called an eye-fi memory card and it has some kind of wireless magic wizardry that allows it to load pictures to your computer wirelessly ANNNDDD it will tag your photos geographically! SO COOL!
Learn about it here!

In other news, my mom and I are currently at war. It's exhausting.

Day at the zoo

Here are some photos from my neighbor Sam's (the zookeeper's) house. These are just a sampling but I feel like it shows the diversity and AMAZINGNESS of his "zoo." Toucan is for sure my favorite.

Black like my soul

Thought I'd show you my newest family members. Didn't realize they were alllllll black until I took these photos. Oops. Some are more sensible than others. Clockwise first are the aldo pumps I bought on Thanksgiving and wore to my interview and stomped through snow in Ohio wearing. They were comfortable enough to last all day. Next, there were my backup interview shoes. Still haven't worn them. May or may not return them. Next are those shoes I bought on ebay! Even though they're humungo tall, they're comfy thanks to a massive platform. Lastly, these probably get the most use because they're the most sensible.
I'm not planning to add to my family any time soon. In fact, I'm trying not to because consumerism is EVIL!!! but feels ooohh so good.
Which ones is your fav?

Lunch Special

Thai food culinary club lunch outing. It was quite delicious! I wore the reddish version of my favorite sweater and a shirt dress from uo.
Christmas Eve was nice; ended up playing mahjjong with my mom and B&J until 2:30am!! And I didn't lose despite snide remarks from my mother who underestimated my beginners luck. Christmas was good albeit kind of boring because there was nothing to. We caught a late showing of True Grit, which I really enjoyed! If you're getting to know me, I loooovvee country music and frequently claim to be from the South. I am from the South you know, of California. Regardless of my geographical origins, this country western was fantastic! Great dialogue except half the things that Jeff Bridges said were incomprehensible. Overall, glad I live in 2010 soon to be 2011.

p.s. As i was typing, google kept trying to make me spell dialogue as dialog, so I looked it up and both spellings are acceptable! Which do you prefer?

Raining animals. Big ones.

It's been raining horses and hippos lately so of course I have even less desire than usual to place myself in the awkward position of in front of the camera. However, I had a revelation today when deciding what to post. My interest aren't confined to the fanciful, glittery lines of fashion. I have lots of interests and hobbies and so I think I will try to share more of these things here. Hopefully we can all learn about the world together, about fashion or about food, science, and life.
Some of you may know (or all of you since you are all my friends) that I love science and I'm currently pursuing my dream of becoming a doctor. Today during my exploration of the internet, I found the National Geographic's Ten Weirdest New Animals of 2010. I will show you my favorites.
Purple Octopus. Cuteness factor is undeniable
This Ninja Star shoots "love darts" at his potential mates. Does not seem all too different from some human men...
The Simpsons Toad. Remind you of Mr. Burns?

Ren Lab

The daily adventures at work will never cease to amuse me. Here at the Ren Lab, we have a unique group of extremely intelligent, but also socially adept, hilarious, and fun/alcohol-loving scientists. As one of the lab managers, I have have the honor of planning as many parties as I can possibly squeeze into our schedule and have also started a culinary club, of which I am the Gluttonous Maximus! Aside from party planning, I also occasionally run some experiments and split my cells now and then.
Ridiculousness is a regular and expected part of our daily lives, ranging from safe-enough, to mildly-carcinogenic, to probably-life-threatening. Today's edition:
m&m's from Vegas (safe-enough)

TEMED (probably-life-threatening)
Somebody, I'm not gonna say who, but somebody spilled TEMED which is not only hazardous but smells like shit, literally. This also resulted in the disappearance of the print on this hazardous chemical's label. So of course we had to rewrite the information, which included hilarious drawings of a flame and a skull, which could be misinterpreted as a tulip and clown. Perhaps my artist had already inhaled too much hazardous fumes. Hope Environmental Health&Safety doesn't come for a surprise safety inspection today.

Oh Hi Oh

Random pictures from Daddy and my trip to Ohio. It snowed practically the whole time, "flurries" as they call it. It was really fun because I love snow! It was really cold though. I have a new respect for the two words "wind chill." We found this great tavern where they have over 100 beers!! I tried the watermelon beer, which was just alright. I finally got to wear my new beanie!
I'm not sure how my interviews went though. I guess I should have some news in the next three weeks. EEK! Some of the questions I encountered were really tough and I squirmed a little, but I will keep my fingers crossed!

Elite Status!

me and my +1
Yelp Elite holiday event at Urbn in North Park. Pizza was good! I'd like to see their whole menu. I got a mule (drink) which was also good. Can't wait for the next event!!!!!

Christmas Red

Today I threw a Secret Santa party at work so in the festive spirit, I wore my new red red red sweater from bloomies. In the sunlight, it was so bright it kind of hurt my eyes, but I still love it! The pictures don't really do justice to how brightly colored it is, but just stare into the sun for a few nanoseconds and that's pretty much how bright my sweater is.

My interview at U.Cincinnati is on THURSDAY! and Case Western is on FRIDAY!!! My nerves are on the brink of collapse.

His&Hers

Jak&Jil
Too cute.
I don't know how I feel about men wearing highwaters though. As chic and hairy-armed as he might be, I think I still prefer the Polo/Calvin Klein kind of rugged manly man.

XMAS Lights

I'm particularly in the Christmas Mood this year. Don't know why!

#1 Dad

Today is a great day because it's my dad's birthday. My dad is my best friend and I have learned so much from him and draw so much strength from him. Today is his bday and so I went home to have some cake with him and go on a date with him (dinner and movie, our yuje).
Woke up this morning and took pictures with Charlie on photobooth bc B wasn't home and Charlie usually isn't allowed in his room. hehe.
Then I went home to pack and change and I took some outfit photos! I was still really awkward but with fellow blogger Knits&Knacks, I felt marginally better. I think the key is to not look at the camera and hide my face, at least for now.

knits&knacks!
Then I drove home and ran errands all day with trusty charlie tiring out my poor little arm and then cake at my dad's office.
Then Daddy and I had dinner and watched The Tourist, which wasn't very good but at least I was entertained by the eye-cocaine. Overall, a great day that I spent with my daddy.

Truffles

I have always had a love for all things truffle. I could smell a truffle from a mile away and could probably have a lucrative career as a truffle hunting dog/pig should I never get into medical school. Today, during a long tangent at work, I educated myself briefly on the magical world of truffles.
http://blog.branca.com/category/food/
The truffle is a fungus, or more commonly known as a mushroom, that grows just centimeters below the surface of the ground in a heavenly symbiotic relationship with certain trees such as Oak trees. There are two main types: the black truffle and the white truffle. The white truffle is superior (as dictated by cost) due to its stronger and more pungent aromas. The most of the flavor of the truffle is in it's pervasive aroma which engulfs the palette with its fragrant, earthy flavors.
http://eatreadlive-recipes.blogspot.com/
Dogs and pigs (and myself) are used to hunt truffles. Dogs can be trained to hunt truffles and are preferred because they will not greedily gobble up the truffle once discovered like the voracious pig. Pigs are naturally drawn to the smell of truffles as the smell is composed of a compound that is similar to the sex hormones of boars. It is unclear whether or not this would be effective on humans, however I do not know how I could possibly resist a man, or a beast, that smells like... (inhale)...truffle. aaahh.
You might be enraged like I am, but truffle oil doesn't actually contain any truffle at all!!!! !!!!! As somebody who purchased some several months ago at $20/8.5 oz., I AM OFFENDED! In fact, truffle oil (ALTHOUGH IT CLAIMS TO BE INFUSED WITH TRUFFLES RIGHT THERE ON THE BOTTLE) contains 2,4-dithiapentane, a synthetic agent that smells and tastes delicious despite the masterful trickery of marketing. I wish I wish with all my might that one day I will be able to travel to Alba, Italy in late Autumn and early Winter and go truffle hunting with the Trifolau (truffle hunters).
Please read this beautiful article on the Alba Truffle Festival: White Gold

Since this post was completely not fashion related and although I never explicitly stated that I would only talk about fashion/style on this blog, I will redeem myself with a post of what I'm wearing today.
I'm still unbearably awkward in front of the camera. My apologies. I should probably take the photos after a few strong drinks.

OH SNAP

Even though it was B's Birthday, he got me a present! He got me the camera I wanted!!!!!!! Of course it goes on sale like 3 days after, but he got a price adjustment so even better!
I am wholly in love with my new camera to the point where I'm afraid to use it for fear I'll break it like i broke my last camera. I really am gonna have to buy the warranty or else I'll just be too afraid to use it. (even though B protests that warranties are unnecessary; he is unaware of how technology can crumble at my fingertips) Of course the first thing I took a picture of is my love Charlie
This was taken with the built in FISHEYE effect!!! OH SNAP!
I got B a Patagonia fleece because his trusty fleece was getting old. He likes it too! AND I found his Christmas present so I'm relieved about that.
Went to Vegas on an impromptu trip this weekend for B's Bday where we met up with my sister and the hurricane that she is. There was fainting, wheelchairs, and ridiculousness all around times a hundred. It was a blast.
my new dress from bloomies that I almost returned but then decided to keep because of it's high wearability score

Dang Nabbit!

The second of the two shoes I ordered on Aldo came in today and it's too small!!!!! Ugly stepsister syndrome. Hopefully I can go to the store and get an exchange tomorrow.

This picture is a personification of my foot.

p.s. Yesterday during my shift at the E.R., a patient asked me if I was pregnant because "I looked pregnant". My uniform is a little shapeless, but never did I think it was MATERNITY WEAR. Quite a blow to my self esteem.

Bambi

Sorry for so many videos lately, but I couldn't resist posting this video I saw on http://becauseimaddicted.net/. It's my obsession Bambi, remember from the killer photos below. AHH. She's even more stunning in motion.
