Could-have-been love story

Nowadays, I can't even imagine a relationship that at one point hasn't had a "chatting" phase where you two sign on to AIM/Gchat/FB/etc to see if the other person is online and have a silent celebratory parade when they are and then you don't know what to say and don't message them immediately so you don't seem too desperate but you're so excited to talk to them (AGAIN for like the hundredth time that day). Then you act nonchalant so you seem more cool than you really are, but really you're just as excited as they are to see your little icon pop up in their chat window. It's the digital equivalent of trying not to make eye contact. Every ding-dong of your text alert sends you into hopeful cartwheels that it's you-know-who, and when it is you may or may not respond immediately because you want to appear like you're doing something waaayyy cooler than watching tv or your laundry or other banalities that occupy your time. All the while, the real emotions behind our cryptic language of abbrvs, acronymns, LOL's, and emoticons aren't really revealed (unless fueled by repeated copious consumption of alcohol; speaking for personal experience).

So today, I think I will say what I think and feel, and I hope you will too.

Unless it's bad; because I'm from the south and my mama taught me that if you ain't got something nice to say, don't say anything at all. (UNLESS they are a real d-bag and really really deserve it. Then let it rip; but that's just me.)

Girls Afternoon

Marbellians and I went out this past weekend to karaoke and dinner. I really love karaoke; it's almost embarrassing how much I love it. My dreams of becoming a country pop star just never really died so I hit up the karaoke and love the instant electricity when my fingers grasp the mic. Albeit it is less than magic what noises are emitted from my mouth, there must be some auditory equivalent of the saying that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Wore my new earrings! I have wanted earrings like this for a long time and I found them in NY! It's a long earring that you thread through your ear and just let dangle on both sides. I love you new earrings!
Sign at the karaoke bar. This is not a joke kids. If you drink, you might get pregnant. According to the health teacher in Mean Girls (a qualified and reputable source) if you get pregnant, you'll die. Are you willing to take that risk?

Adventure in the Concrete Jungle

I've been back from NY for 4 days already, but I still miss its endless nights and timeless memories. I am still recovering too!! It's going to be a slow night, so this is the perfect opportunity for me to show and tell.

It all started with an interview at Stonybrook Medical School, which I think went well enough. I am always hesitant to say anything for certain because, well frankly, I don't know! As soon as the interview was over, I was ready for the party to begin. First, J and I went sledding, and then we picked up the Hurricane (you'll meet her later). On our way home form the airport, we got really lost going home despite GPS+iPhone navigation. It was nice being lost with you J+H.
The next day, H and I slept in and by the afternoon, but we had to haul ass to make it onto the train on time, which we did by a very very fine hair. The rest, my dearest blog, can only be described in pictures.

I know in none of these photos except for the last can you really see what I'm wearing under the parka, but would like to tell you that it was 30 degrees the whole time and being the southern girl that I am, I simply could not bring myself to take off my jacket, even for blog photos. I hope you enjoyed my photos nevertheless. I tried to give you a sampling of the things we did, the places we went, the food we ate, and all the fun we had. This was my first "girl's trip" and it exceeded all my hopes and dreams. I am so grateful to have lived this long such that I may have had the experience of going to New York City with my best friends.

Consolation Prize

I know I didn't post photos from NYC like I said I would because last night when I was thinking of what I was supposed to do that I didn't do, the only thing I thought of was my laundry.
Here are some weird/gross videos for your singing and dancing pleasure instead.

Today I flew my nerd flag at the vendor show. It was a proud moment for me :)
I also fell asleep during lab meeting, like a million times. My mouth was open according to my co-worker.

Unsubscribe

I just want to tell you, blog, that today I unsubscribed to several blogs on my Google Reader. After a year-ish of blogsession, I am finally able to whittle down my 100's of subscriptions and admit to several that
NYC updates to come after I load my pictures. It was Hamazing.

MAMIKA

Found this today. So touched. I am really close with my family, including my grandparents so this story is just precious.
"A few years ago, French photographer Sacha Goldberger found his 91-year-old Hungarian grandmother Frederika feeling lonely and depressed. To cheer her up, he suggested that they shoot a series of outrageous photographs in unusual costumes, poses, and locations. Grandma reluctantly agreed, but once they got rolling, she couldn't stop smiling."
Depression is a difficult disease and it's hard to know how to help your loved ones who are experiencing it. If only all things in life could be solved with a photo shoot.
Family is the best.

UCinn.

I didn't tell you, blog, that I got into U. Cincinnati Medical School!!!!!!!! I'm so glad to have secured my future as a doctor but I'm still hoping this next interview goes well. Fingers are crossed!!!
Mama Zhen and some coworkers got me some impromptu congratulatory gifts :) They're the best.
Then a couple of us went out for dinner on Friday night which was preceded by a 90 MINUTE WAIT, but at least the food was good.
Wore my aqua dress from Bloomies and my sale-steal sweater from Gap! Thanks wifey for the delicious drink!

NY Here I Come!

I miraculously made it to New York without delay or cancellation or death!!!! So happy! I'm now at my friend's place waiting for my headache to go away so here I am! Here are some photos I snapped as the plane swerved away from San Diego.

This is a fraction of what I packed. I could not fit everything into one picture and the other picture was blurry or had bad lighting/color. Everything is the same colorish! Ha!

I guess you will see these on yours truly in the next few days spiced up with snow and scenery and food and excitement and more!!!!!!!
But firstly, my interview is tomorrow. I should review my notes now.

please please please!!!!

Rushed home from work one day last week to take these photos before sunset. Roomie was napping so I had to use my tripod, and Charlie really had to potty so she was dragging me in all of these photos. Wearing my comforter jacket and my new belt from my secret santa! I wanted to buy this belt for myself but didn't so was so happy to see it!! I then went and bought it in black!
I am waiting for my Nyquil to kick in because I haven't been sleeping well and am afraid I'm getting sick, because granted my flight on Wednesday doesn't get cancelled and I somehow miraculously make it to New York through a monstrous blizzard and get to my interview on Thursday, I CANNOT BE SICK! Thus, Nyquil and bedtime and 9:30pm. Don't judge me.

Laughing Tree

I recently spent some time with my old roomies in LA over the holiday. One of my old roomies, Helena, has started an adorable little company called The Laughing Tree, where she sells too-cute stationery and little doo-dads. Go visit her site at : http://www.thelaughingtreeshop.com/

PAPER PEAR! Complete with Styrofoam jacket!

This picture was taken on my little tripod after several drinks and one location change, but we weren't nearly done!
Somehow that night I stubbed/bruised/blackened my second toe on my right foot. It's very mysterious to me because I was wearing my boots which are completely unharmed. Conundrum.

It's Nicole!

It's Nicole from top model!!!! She was my favorite I think because she was nerdy, sweet, sincere, quirky, and not an annoying bitch! Thus, I am extremely happy to see her modelling for Nicole Richie who I also love! Go Nicoles!

Off to a slow start

Hello 2011,
We've known each other for 5 days now, but I don't think we've been properly introduced. My name is Lindsay and I am still learning about everything. I want to be a doctor, and this is a difficult dream that I am currently still pursuing. I have a maltipoo named Charlie. I love fashion, science, music, animals, TV, movies, naps, and much much more that I simply cannot list.
2010 and I were pretty good friends. We had our ups and our downs, but I'm really hoping that you're going to be much better (no offense 2010). I'm going to try to remember only the qualities of 2010 and look forward to all that you, 2011, are going to bring to my life.
Here are some photos from my last minutes with 2010 and my first minutes with you, my new friend.

disregard my disheveled hair. it was after several drinks and the hat and honestly that's just what my hair looks like.

on her: shirt and blazer H&M, sparkle short F21, boots JC
It's nice to meet you.
I'm looking forward to learning about you.
Sincerely,
Lindsay
